On February 22, 2020 more than 125 people from community-based organizations across the city came together to plan ways to influence the shape of the Official Plan and a pending Council decision on the urban boundary. This post contains the workshop agenda and presentations that set the table for action planning. The files are secure PDF documents for viewing only. For ease of viewing, some have also been posted to the Video page on this site.
People's Official Plan
Ottawa, Ontario, Canada
Ottawa’s new Official Plan will be a policy framework for the physical development of Ottawa to 2045. It defines policies for land use and related housing and infrastructure decisions. Other strategic plans of the City of Ottawa, including the Climate Change and Greenspace Master Plan, the Transportation Master Plan, and the Waste Management Master Plan, among others, take their lead from the Official Plan.
Since April, 2019, local organizations and individuals have come together face-to-face and online to influence the shape of Ottawa's new Official Plan and related City Council decisions. We have two common concerns. First, that the new Official Plan is not moving far enough and fast enough on the climate emergency and related housing and homelessness emergency. Second, that the people most affected by the plan (residents) have not been mobilized and engaged in co-creating this important public policy. This site shares outputs of our discussions, with a view to building consensus across the city among people with a common interest in making Ottawa an inclusive, affordable and liveable city.
